This of course is not of interest to all, but since we have a few would be visitors amongst our readers, we want to share the step by step construction process for our “get away” bamboo studio and oasis of shade…
The welcome shade comes from the large mature trees – the coconut tree, soon to be surrounded by a bamboo balcony, the mango tree that is (unfortunately) out of season, the bitter orange tree and the jocote tree (small, orange fruit with big pit for juices and holiday dessert dishes).
After collecting the stones from San Juan del Sur area beaches, we needed to confirm that we had enough stones and that we liked the look. This is what we are shooting for…
Bamboo canes are used for pillars, but also for flooring, for walls, for trusses that hold up the roof…. Thus the quantity of bamboo canes used in the construction…
The upstairs “volume” is now taking shape with the vertical canes and trusses for the roof. We can see where the windows will be… It becomes clear that we need to “deal” with the coconut tree. Current best scenario is to carve out a piece of roof away, so that the tree remains “open” to the sky…
Like the stones. Are they going on the wall or on the floor?
Bitter orange not so good for eating but makes EXCELLENT orange marmalade. Recipes freely available on the net.
The stones will make up the floor and walls of the bath/shower.
