Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India asked world leaders to adopt an International Yoga Day. Addressing the 193 member UN General Assembly, Modi said “Yoga is an invaluable gift of our ancient tradition; it is not about exercise, but to discover the sense of one-ness with yourself, the world and nature. Yoga embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfillment, harmony between man and nature, a holistic approach to help and well-being”.
In keeping with this new International Yoga Day on June 21, we put together a collection of 21 photographs that celebrates our practice of yoga, internationally.
Stunning!
Thanks Nik!
You do get around. Nice side plank, Ben. Ometepe is my favorite.
Thank you.
That sunset on Ometepe was one of the best sunsets EVER! The colors seemed absolutely unreal.
What a cool idea for a series! I think Ometepe is my favorite, too.
Thanks Alison.
Yoga around the world…I love it! Another vote for Ometepe, but Pushkar is pretty cool too. They’re all great. Fun post!
I used to look for yoga classes to go to, but now I just do yoga wherever we are, wherever we go!
Thanks Caroline.

Stephanie:
These pictures are beautiful, so happy you shared them!
You and Ben look amazing, very impressed with your poses, you must have had a really good teacher.
If you are in town for the summer I would love to see you guys.

Thanks Stephanie!
Oh yes, many wonderful teachers for sure…. Including one talented yogini Stephanie in H.P.
Would love to see you too.
Namaste,
Peta
Happy belated yoga day. Looks like you celebrated well. My favorite photo: purvotanasana over river rocks. Cheers!
Thanks J.B. We definitely did celebrate…although every day is yoga day in my books! I do love that photo as well… The river was super crowded with people lower down but we kept walking and eventually the crowds subsided and we had a private spot of our own.

Wow what an amazing collection of photos! Beautiful.
Thank you Sue!
It was actually hard making a selection limited to only 21!
Peta
Gorgeous set of yoga poses, pictures and places! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Julie.

I love how you showed yoga poses from different countries and cultures. I attend yoga classes one to two times a week. I always leave feeling refreshed.
Thank you.
Yoga has changed my life in very profound and positive ways.
Glad you enjoyed the photos of poses across the globe.
Namaste,
Peta
Waou, beautiful collection! I love the Warrior 1 especially 🙂 Is your whole family into yoga?
Thanks!
Ben and I have incorporated yoga into our lives on a very regular basis. Our sons, dip their toes in occasionally. All of them have taken classes and enjoy it but on a less regular basis.

As a pharmacist in my former life you’ll have to forgive me Peta for my more traditional view of medicine but I really do find the Eastern traditions and philosophies fascinating. I love yoga and it’s ability to make me feel more “in the moment,” calmed and energized, all at the same time. And, look at you! You’re the picture of flexibility and an inspiration! Anita
Anita thanks so much for your comments. I love the fact that you have a background as a pharmacist. Perhaps you can relate to the Chinese perspective that Western medical treatment is focused on specific ailments and specific treatment of that ailment, whereas Chinese treatment is more holistic. So for instance, I am not a fan of excessive antibiotics and have turned to Chinese herbal treatments as a way of prevention and first pass at trying to deal with the problem and trying to avoid antibiotics. It does not always work, such as when I had strep throat and clearly the appropriate treatment was antibiotics.
Thanks for the compliments…
