Thanh Ha fisherman village ~ our favorite smaller market, Hoi An, Viet Nam

Che dessert ~ a variety of beans, sweet fruits topped with ice and condensed milk.
Fried coconut fritters
Small bowls with firm rice paste, topped with a chili sauce and crispy bits.
This vendor is one of  several who come through the neighborhood selling small “tapas” style treats.
Inside the box… Flavored sticky rice wrapped into beautiful little packages made from banana leaf.
Cau Lau is a Hoi An specialty food…. Special thick udon type noodles are smoked for extra flavor.
Add some pork, fresh herbs, broth and crispy bits of noodle for a very unique taste.
Using a small machine to pulverize one huge ice block into lots of little ice chips
Bad ass! Cigar smoking matriarch

Hat fashion is omnipresent at the market.

Lunch with the girls. Always interesting to eat at small stalls not at all accustomed to serving foreigners. Yum, Banh xeo (crispy Vietnamese pancakes with herbs and rice paper.)
