Josh and Krista visit

We had a fabulous time with Josh and Krista who came to Nicaragua to celebrate their birthdays and spend a week with us. Oren returned from his ten days of work learning how to build a bamboo house. He joined a team of six CO2 Bambu workers, none of whom speak any English, slept in hammocks on site, with no toilets or showers. All in all, a very good learning experience! We spend Sunday in Granada and then head out on Monday to get the ferry across Lake Cocibolca to Ometepe island with its two volcanoes. We stop at a natural mineral waters pool for a rejuvenating swim in the clear waters, before eating lunch looking across the lake at the Volcano. We are staying at Totoco hotel which is our favorite place on Ometepe – its socially conscious and environmentally responsible and is situated 200 m elevation at the gateway of Maderas Volcanos cloud forest with an amazing view of Volcano Concepcion and the lake on both sides. We spend two days relaxing, eating good food, kayaking and swimming. Midweek we take the ferry back across the lake and drive to our rented house at the beach. The house is spectacular! Situated high on the hills behind Maderas and Majagual beaches, its designed by a well known Nicaraguan-based british architect, is gorgeous with a magical view of the Pacific ocean. There are no windows, only screens, giving the house a feel of an upscale very comfortable adult tree house. We awake each day to the sound of and sight of the birds. We spend our time here equally between the house and its infinity pool and the beaches nearby before heading out on a drive the last day south of San Jan del Sur. We stop at Playa Coco, one of the nicest beaches in Nicaragua… a long stretch of white sand, perfect swimming and usually we are the only ones on the beach. Then on to the property at Ostional to show Josh and Krista, followed by a yummy dinner at a restaurant in SJDS, before driving back to Granada. A sunset boat ride to the isletas the next day, followed by a swim at the laguna de apoyo crater lake the morning before heading to the airport. A full, yet relaxing wonderful week! And a good empty nester visit…
