Before we left Nicaragua, I was having a conversation with my father on skype about our upcoming departure for Southeast Asia, when he said to me rather incredulously, “You two live as though you are millionaires!”
To which I replied,” I know…. isn’t it incredible!”
Even though my bank account is rather laughable, I do consider myself “rich” ~ I have 4 amazing sons, a supportive and loving family, good health, great friends and lots of love in my life…
However, this current home exchange definitely does have us feeling like millionaires. It is one of those spectacular, take your breath away, unique homes in a great setting. We definitely scored. Big time! (Did I mention how much we love trading homes?)
In addition to an incredible view over the several hundred years old hand sculpted rice paddies and a lovely infinity pool, the property also has two guest houses and comes with a full time staff of 6! ( A driver, a chef, gardener, housekeepers…) We definitely don’t “need” a staff, yet as I write, the chef is busy preparing our dinner, and its rather nice to feel like millionaires for a while.

Welcome to our second home exchange in Ubud, Bali! |
|
Open the gateway, take the path and steps down to the house…. |
|
And voila, there it is….Nestled amongst the coconut trees and terraced rice paddies. |
|
And then you see it.. the grand view of the terraced rice paddies ~ currently the rice plants are at the beginning of the growth cycle and so are very small and you can still see the water they grow in. |
|
View of the open air living room and family room, leading to the pool, with stairs leading up to the main bedroom. |
|
It is quite the view from the bedroom over the infinity pool with terraced rice paddies as a backdrop. Breathtaking! |
|
Sitting area to the left, kitchen to the far right. |
|
All open to the elements. |
|
In the upstairs sitting area just off the main bedroom. |
|
Love the bed in the middle of the room, desk behind it and sliding doors which open across the front of the room affording a great view from the bed. Always a big favorite for me. Lots of fresh air and trees all around. |
|
Open air bathroom. No glass behind those mirrors. Sinks set into very rough thick wood counter tops. |
|
Incredible view! |
|
Love the coconut tree in the pool. |
|
The landscaped rice paddies make beautiful designs and shapes in the hillside. |
|
Many lovely sculptures grace the gardens. |
Certainly no more than you deserve!
Well thank you sir!
There are some marvelous places in this world and you chose one of them for this trip…BRAVO…
Bali has been calling me for a long time now!
Looks like Paradise…. What a beautiful environment. Enjoy!
It IS, it IS! Loving it here! Thanks!
OMG – can you spell jealous? Seems like there in an extra room just waiting for me! Oh, wait, I am not “eligible” to travel these days 🙂
Peta, this looks incredibly beautiful and serene – you are both really creative in figuring out your travels.
xoxox
Really is paradise indeed and we feel very fortunate to have had time here. The light on the carved rice paddies changed constantly as the sun moved and we enjoyed the aesthetic of the design and furnishings of the house! Thanks for your comments TCT, JB, Nicole, Adrienne.
I wich we could come and stay with you!!!!! Beautiful..!.So happy for you two!
Nieves, nice to hear from you. We wish you could too. Certainly there was space aplenty!
Oh my goodness it’s like a home exchange in paradise!
All four of our home exchanges in Bali (three of them in 2014 and one in January 2016) were exceptional and very memorable!
